My Creative Friends and Entrepreneurs,

Has life been super demanding, stressful, and down right insane?! I'm there with ya!!

Finding focus and calm during the craziest season of this busy life is never the easiest. I'm constantly looking for my center.  Maybe a few of you can relate to this season of change.

I'm a mom of 2 adorable little fellas and school just started for them. For some parents, that's a blessing so they can be back into a normal routine, yet for some others it's another time of transition. Maybe for others, you don't have children, but you're dealing with another transition in your life.  Let me tell ya -- I'm not very graceful when it comes to change. But I digress -- I fall into the camp where starting school is another thing to juggle on top of running a creative business. My oldest son started a new school and we drive 50 minutes to get to his school, the hubby started a second job, and well we're also in a remodel that left us without a shower, I manage a team of between 4-6 people, I'm also writing a book, and last summer my son was diagnosed with a rare genetic eye disorder along with ear surgeries which adds a lot of hospital and visits to the doctors office.  Whew! After typing that all out - I think I'm ready for a glass of wine. Friends, I've been craving some sort of routine or structure -- and normalcy if that's what you want to call it, but in the midst of trying to find something that works for us -- I've learned to give myself grace. I think I've rained buckets of tears when things seem to be too heavy and when I've given myself the chance to experience all the emotions - I tell myself, life is AMAZING and I'm blessed - I have a roof over my head, I have a husband that supports me, I have my amazing boys who bring endless joy to my life, I have an amazing team who sees the bigger vision, and I am given a talent to share with the world! You guys, despite my heaviest days and feeling like I can't do it by myself -- I have so much to be thankful for.  I have faith that in order to 'get over it, we must go through it.'

For anyone reading this blog, I hope if you're going through some difficult seasons in your life -- know that you are not alone.  Know that the burden cannot last forever and be kind to yourself, allow compassion to shine through.  I've created a list of things that I've been working on in order to find some semblance in my life and hope that it helps you too! If you have any additional things that seem to work for you, I'd love to hear it!

1. Schedule in daily Meditation (download @headspace app)

2. Prayer + Practice gratitude (if you're spiritual or religous, take time to find the blessings in your life. Be thankful for what you have)

3. Plan out at least 30 minutes a day to Exercise (if you can't do 30 minutes, I've downloaded the The 7 minute workout on my phone. Works great when I travel)

4. Cut out processed sugars (I cut out sugar cold turkey, but you can slowly take away the sugars. Cutting out sugar has helped tremendously with my concentration and I feel great!)

4. Schedule 15 minutes of Creative Play (sketching, creating, doing something fun!)

5. Connect with Friends & Family (set a monthly call, visit, or check in with those who matter most!)

6. Work in an inspiring space preferably with Inspiring people - Your work environment needs to allow room for creativity and if it wasn't a given - Find and surround yourself with inspiring people ;)

These are just some of the things that I'm working on to live a more well-balanced life.  Self-care really needed to be a priority in my life, especially when things get so chaotic.  I admit, I have never been a structured person - uhmmm...hello, creative person here! But I find that creating a schedule actually helps ensure I get through all my responsibilities while maintaining my sanity.

Aside from this transition, we will be co-sharing a space in Fremont with our dearest @essellesf in her amazing new space @kinfolkinspiredspace.  We are so excited to get more facetime with her as she's always working on something fun!  To get a glimpse of the space, check out this recent chat we had with @essellesf about her inspiration and intention behind @kinfolkinspiredspace (KIS) click here!

What is KIS?

KIS is an extension of the new esselle studio space.

We think of Kinsfolk Inspired Space (aka KIS) as a social club for empowered women creatives. It is our mission to connect, learn, grow and support each other because without these amazing women, esselle wouldn’t be what it is today. That is why we carved out a beautiful space to foster this community and see it thrive.

It is our goal to get KIS up and running by the end of September so we can start hosting fun activities and connect with fellow creatives in the neighborhood! We want this space to be used in many ways – from workshops, off-site meetings, presentations, and classes to intimate gatherings, and photography! We really can’t wait to start inviting people over and talk about all the fun things we can do together!

Aside from busy setting up KIS, esselle has grown tremendously as we officially entered into the wholesale market. We survived summer tradeshows and with that had to learn how to produce products quickly as we hand-paint all the wooden products in-house.  Because when things happen, it always seems to happen all at once, the best thing I could do to keep grounded, like any entrepreneur would is to take it day by day! For me, prioritizing day-to-day task has really helped me get things done, instead of becoming a ball of anxiety. And one quote always stayed in my mind when I am approaching “insanity” is “You are doing better than you realize.”  That’s a great daily reminder when things are chaotic and you just need to take a breather and know that you are doing the best you can.

Hello, Oregon.

I’ve always envisioned building out my dream-life with my family in tow so you can imagine having them there with me was like a dream come true.

This Summer is breezing by way too fast! Blogging is rather new for us, but it's one of those things that we hope to do more of because there's so much we want to share and talk about beyond the pretty and often too instant world of Instagram. Often I wonder what it's like to see our brand from the outside. My hope is that I can share the moments that inspire us, moments that connect us, and give you a glimpse of what it's like beyond just the feed.

Oregon is beyond beautiful. One of our snaps while driving along the highway.

At the end of July, I was invited to our favorite marker brand + national sponsor, @copicmarker's company picnic and tour the Copic distribution center @imaginationinternational in Eugene, Oregon. I took this opportunity to bring the family with me. I've always envisioned building out my dream-life with my family in tow so you can imagine having them there with me was like a dream come true.

We landed in Portland and made our way down to a town called Coquille, Oregon. Excited to also be visiting family friends, we headed out on our adventure just about 4 hours drive from Portland. After spending a few day there, we headed to Eugene, Oregon which was about 2 hours away.

Our cute little Airbnb had a chicken coup in the backyard. Here are our littles enjoying the chickens.

Oregon was gorgeous this time of year. So many little fun adventures. We ended up on a lake and rented a canoe, which was so much fun!!

I was ecstatic to be invited to the home of John and Hilary, owners of @copicmarker and @imaginationinternational (1 of 3 distribution centers in the world). Copic Markers is one of our national sponsors for The Sketchbook Series and our all time favorite marker brand. So as you can imagine, I jumped at the chance!

As we arrived to the picnic, we were greeted with face painters, live music, an open bar, and a delicious food spread! Personally, this was the perfect type of event for me - low key, picnic style, casual settings are my jam!

So lush and green!

It was fascinating to hear how it all started and their early humble beginnings of just 2 people working out of their home has now over 100 employees and still growing. It was very inspiring!

During the picnic, I found the perfect spot. I called this my sketching spot.

Before I knew it, the picnic was over, but I was excited to get a private tour the facilities the next day. Valerie heads up the education department there and let me know that @copicmarker wasn't just about selling markers. She shared that they make a few of their own products outside of Copic markers. They also resell other brands. But, to my surprise they also do a lot of philanthropy work with local schools. Education is also a huge component of their brand.  As you can see, I am a huge fan of not only their markers, but also the mission behind their work.  I feel connected in so many ways and I feel very honored that I got a private tour of their facilities.

I couldn't take too many photos inside, but here's a very quick glimpse of my tour!

It's Launch Day!!!

TSS-261.JPG

Today's the day, guys!! We're thrilled you have decided to visit.  This is a big day, not only because we finally have a website, but that we get to share it with the universe, however big or small that may be! Have you ever worked hard on something and right when you're about to show it off, you get the biggest ball of nerves and then your palms get all sweaty?! Well, this website is that for us.  Lots of ideas and dreams written down, hours of creative conversations, months of back and forth, and then back to the drawing board (no PUN intended!) and dare we say it's been years of stalling (on our end!) to figure out our voice.  We really wanted to speak from our hearts and find out what pushes us on the daily so we could deliver it in the most authentic, realest, coolest way we could deliver it to the people we care about - YOU! We wouldn't be here if we didn't have an audience to serve and the biggest hurdle we had to overcome was ourselves.  Isn't that the damn truth all the time with creative types?! So we finally said, enough is enough -- we NEED to have a website so we can start to meet those looking for us too! I mean, that's what this site and brand is all about -- finding more creatives to connect and grow with!  So if you're reading this, THANK YOU for cheering us on, believing in us, supporting us - BUT we hope that we can deliver in our promise which is to show you all how to "live a creatively inspired life!!" We  strive to build a community that engages with us so we can improve and offer content, classes, and event you all want to see! Don't hesitate to reach out or comment on our social feeds - WE are listening and we are passionate about bringing answers to those who seek it!
